Staying in Québec after your studies

Obtaining a post-graduation work permit

If you wish to work in Québec after completing your studies, you may be eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Your post-graduation work permit is valid for up to the same length as your study program. It allows you to work for any employer in Canada.

Changes were recently made to the eligibility conditions for post-graduation work permits for international students.

If you decide not to obtain a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) for studies or a study permit, because you had a work permit (or a work authorization while awaiting extension of your work permit) that was issued no later than June 7, 2023 and is still valid, you cannot obtain a post-diploma work permit.

See the federal government page Work in Canada after you graduate for all details.

Costs and time

Visit the IRCC website for post-graduation work permit fees and processing times.

Programme de sélection des travailleurs qualifiés (Skilled worker selection program)

If you plan to stay in Quebec permanently after your studies, you can register your interest with ARRIMA. Visit the Immigrating to Quebec Permanently page for more information.
