Duties of the Prosecuting attorney

A prosecuting attorney examines the evidence submitted by the police, consents to the laying of criminal charges in court and takes responsibility for prosecutions.

The prosecuting attorney applies more than 90 federal and provincial laws, including the following:

  • Criminal Code
  • Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Cannabis Act
  • Canada Evidence Act
