Family mediator and civil mediator
A mediator is an impartial person who takes no position and helps the parties find common ground. The mediator leads the mediation process and ensures that it is properly conducted.
To do so, the mediator does the following:
- Guides your exchanges with the other person
- Breaks down obstacles to communication
- Facilitates dialogue between you and the other person
- Helps you reach an agreement out of court, in full knowledge of the facts
- Ensures the confidentiality of the process
- May recommend obtaining legal advice from a lawyer
- May terminate the mediation exercise if necessary
