A mediator is an impartial person who takes no position and helps the parties find common ground. The mediator leads the mediation process and ensures that it is properly conducted.
To do so, the mediator does the following:
Guides your exchanges with the other person
Breaks down obstacles to communication
Facilitates dialogue between you and the other person
Helps you reach an agreement out of court, in full knowledge of the facts
Ensures the confidentiality of the process
May recommend obtaining legal advice from a lawyer
May terminate the mediation exercise if necessary
