Rénoclimat financial assistance
Steps to follow to obtain Rénoclimat financial assistance
To be eligible for Rénoclimat financial assistance, you must follow the program steps:
- Get a pre-retrofit energy evaluation of your home
- Complete eligible retrofits
- Get a post-retrofit energy evaluation
- Receive your Rénoclimat grant
- Optional step
You may qualify for financial assistance from the Rénoclimat program for eligible retrofits if your renovations have improved your home's EnerGuide rating.
There is no specific timeframe that must be respected between the pre-retrofit and post-retrofit energy evaluations.
1. Get a pre-retrofit energy evaluation
Before starting your retrofits, you must have a pre-retrofit energy evaluation of your home.
Energy evaluation request form (in French only)
If you are unable to use the online form, submit your request by phone.
After receiving your request, a Rénoclimat advisor will contact you to schedule the pre-retrofit energy evaluation for your home.
You should receive this phone call within three weeks after submitting your request. If you do not receive this call, do not hesitate to contact the customer service department.
The pre-retrofit energy evaluation
A Rénoclimat advisor will visit your home on the scheduled date and perform the pre-retrofit energy evaluation.
- Learn about the energy evaluation process.
- Ensure your home is ready for the blower door test.
- Take the time to discuss with your Rénoclimat advisor during their visit.
- Get expert advice on improving your home’s energy efficiency and selecting the right energy efficiency retrofits.
- Receive the energy evaluation report two weeks after the visit.
- Contact your Rénoclimat advisor if you need clarifications about the measures and recommendations in the report.
A $150 fee (plus taxes) is charged for the first pre-retrofit energy evaluation. This amount is reimbursable when financial assistance is granted.
Cancellation or travel fees may apply.
2. Carry out your retrofits
Complete your energy efficiency renovations. Refer to your energy evaluation report as needed.
Keep all invoices, proof, and photos related to your retrofits. For example, if you installed doors and windows or mechanical systems, keep the manufacturer’s labels.
Check the pages on eligible retrofits and grant amounts or consult the Rénoclimat Participant’s Guide (PDF 1.76 Mb) to verify the eligibility conditions for financial assistance.
Remember that your home’s EnerGuide rating, as indicated in your evaluation report, must improve for you to qualify for financial assistance.
3. Get a post-retrofit energy evaluation
Once your retrofits are completed, fill out the online request form or contact the Customer service department of the Rénoclimat program.

The post-retrofit energy evaluation
A Rénoclimat advisor will visit your home on the scheduled date and conduct a post-retrofit energy evaluation.
The Rénoclimat advisor will note the retrofits that have been completed and perform a new blower door test to assess the impact of your renovations on your home's energy consumption.
- Learn about the post-retrofit evaluation process.
- Ensure your home is ready for the blower door test.
- Present your invoices and proof of work completed during the visit.
The post-retrofit energy evaluation is offered free of charge. Cancellation or travel fees may apply.
Deadline to comply with
There is no specific timeframe that must be respected between the pre-retrofit and post-retrofit energy evaluations to qualify for Rénoclimat financial assistance.
However, program conditions may be modified by the Gouvernement du Québec. These changes could affect the grant amount you receive at the end of the process.
We recommend that you stay informed and consider any modifications to the program. Do not delay in requesting your energy evaluation once your renovations are complete!
4. Confirmation of financial assistance
The Rénoclimat advisor sends the recorded data and the list of completed retrofits to the Rénoclimat program administrator.
The program administrator then:
- Verifies whether your application meets all the eligibility criteria for financial assistance.
- Calculates the grant amount you are entitled to receive.
The file review process takes between eight and ten weeks after the post-retrofit energy evaluation.
The Rénoclimat financial assistance cheque is sent by mail to the primary homeowner. Allow an additional two weeks for Canada Post processing times.
Remember to provide the primary homeowner’s Social Insurance Number (SIN) to ensure the financial assistance payment can be processed.
5. Optional step
Obtain a subsequent energy evaluation
After receiving grant from the Rénoclimat program for the first time, you can decide to undertake new energy efficiency retrofits at any time.
If you believe your new renovations have further improved your home's energy performance and are eligible for financial assistance, you are encouraged to request a subsequent post-retrofit energy evaluation.
A $150 fee (plus taxes) applies to each subsequent energy evaluation. These fees are non-refundable.
During a subsequent energy evaluation, the Rénoclimat advisor will:
- Visit your home;
- Note the newly completed retrofits;
- Perform a new blower door test.
After reviewing your file, the Rénoclimat program administrator determines whether you qualify for a new grant.
- The disbursement of Rénoclimat financial assistance remains conditional on improving your home’s EnerGuide rating.
- The blower door test results will be compared to the most recent energy evaluation results of your home.
- You can receive financial assistance from the Rénoclimat program multiple times, provided that different retrofits are carried out during each participation.
The file review process may take eight to ten weeks after the subsequent energy evaluation.
