Rénoclimat financial assistance
Rénoclimat financial assistance for installing mechanical systems
A $500 grant is available for the installation or replacement of a heat recovery ventilation system. Certain conditions apply to be eligible for financial assistance.
The installation of a drain water heat recovery system is also eligible for Rénoclimat financial assistance.
Heat recovery ventilation system
Rénoclimat financial assistance is available for the installation or replacement of a heat recovery ventilation system.
| Type of system | Grant amount |
|---|---|
| Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) or Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) | $500 |
Conditions:
- Available for the installation or replacement of a system.
- The unit must be a heat recovery system and must be listed in Section 3 of the certified product directory of the Home Ventilating Institute.
Check all required conditions in Section 4.4 of the Rénoclimat Participant’s Guide (PDF 1.76 Mb).
Important notice
Make sure to carry out other energy efficiency retrofits in addition to installing a ventilation system before requesting a post-retrofit energy evaluation.
The payment of Rénoclimat financial assistance is conditional on improving your home’s EnerGuide rating between two consecutive energy evaluations.
If you only install a heat recovery ventilator without completing other energy efficiency retrofits, your home’s energy consumption may increase, making you ineligible for Rénoclimat financial assistance.
You can discuss this with your Rénoclimat energy advisor during their visit.
Importance of a ventilation system
A mechanical ventilation system, also called an air exchanger, plays an important role in a new or well-insulated home:
- It removes excess humidity and pollutants from the home.
- It introduces fresh air to replace stale air.
If this ventilation system is also a heat recovery unit, it helps maintain indoor air quality without significantly increasing energy consumption.
Refer to the Helpful advice/Ventilation section to learn more about residential ventilation systems and their importance in a home.
Drain water heat recovery system
A drain water heat recovery system captures and reuses a portion of the heat from shower water as it flows down the drain.
| Type of system | Grant amount |
|---|---|
| Drain water heat recovery unit | From $120 to $180 |
Condition:
- Valid for new installation only.
Check all required conditions in Section 4.4 of the Rénoclimat Participant’s Guide (PDF 1.76 Mb).
Ineligible work – Heating systems
The Rénoclimat program no longer provides financial assistance for the installation or replacement of a heating system.
If you wish to replace or upgrade your heating system:
- Refer to the Helpful advice section to learn more about the benefits of heat pumps.
- Discuss your options with your Rénoclimat energy advisor during their visit. They will assess your home’s heating needs and recommend the best solution for your home.
- Look into other available financial assistance programs.
