Rénoclimat financial assistance
Post-retrofit energy evaluation
A Rénoclimat energy advisor will visit your home to conduct the post-retrofit energy evaluation.
This evaluation determines whether your energy efficiency retrofits have improved your home’s energy performance and whether you are eligible for Rénoclimat financial assistance.
Cost of the post-retrofit energy evaluation
The first post-retrofit energy evaluation provided under the Rénoclimat program is free, regardless of the size of your home.
Cancellation or travel fees may apply.
Steps of the post-retrofit energy evaluation
During a post-retrofit energy evaluation, the energy advisor walks through your home to observe and document the energy efficiency retrofits you have completed.
The post-retrofit evaluation lasts between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the size of the home.
Verification of completed retrofits
For insulation retrofits—The advisor notes the type of retrofit, the areas covered, and the level of insulation achieved. You will be asked to provide invoices for the completed work.
For airtightness improvements—The advisor conducts a blower door test to verify the effectiveness of the modifications. The new air changes rate per hour of your home is calculated.
For the replacement of doors and windows—The advisor checks the ENERGY STAR manufacturer labels to confirm the energy performance of the installed products.
For the installation of mechanical systems—The advisor verifies the presence of new installed equipment, their characteristics, and efficiency levels. You will be required to provide detailed invoices to confirm eligibility for Rénoclimat financial assistance.
Keep your invoices and proof of work
Keep all proof of completed work (invoices, photos, manufacturer labels, etc.).
You will need to provide them to the Rénoclimat advisor during their visit.
Keep these documents until you receive the financial assistance payment, as the Rénoclimat program administrator may request them when reviewing your file.
Improvement of the EnerGuide rating
Using the results of the new blower door test and the list of completed work, the advisor establishes your home's new EnerGuide rating.
The Rénoclimat financial assistance payment is conditional on the improvement of your EnerGuide rating between two consecutive energy evaluations of your home.
Some retrofits, such as installing or replacing a heat recovery ventilator or replacing a single window, may not be sufficient to improve your home’s EnerGuide rating.
Make sure you have completed enough energy efficiency retrofits before requesting a post-retrofit evaluation.
Updating your documents
Two weeks after the evaluation, you will receive an updated homeowner information sheet and a new EnerGuide label.
These documents allow you to see the impact of your energy efficiency retrofits and the annual energy savings achieved.
